Subject: [FILM] Jedi Academy Prequel Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 14:28:51 -0600 From: "Chuck, Lord of the Dance" Newsgroups: alt.startrek.vs.starwars A spokesman for Kevin J. Anderson today announced the release of a new live action prequel to his Jedi Academy trilogy. The spokesman, who identified himself as "not Kevin J. Anderson" and wore a fake wig and beard, revealed that Lucas himself has been in touch with the author to create the new film. "Jedi Academy was a series loved by billions," Anderson stated in the press release. "The new prequel will enhance the series by adding more detail to my rich and vibrant tale." The prequel, titled "Attack of the Clones," will focus on the training of Anakin as a Jedi "in much the same way the students in 'Jedi Academy' were trained." The story will expand upon Anderson's original tale by discussing the origins of Luke Skywalker, who was the central character in Jedi Academy. While Anderson expresses fear that the film will fail to capture the scope of his opus, his is confident that Lucas can stay true enough to his vision. "I've been in constant communication with Georgie - excuse me, Mr. Lucas, heh heh - since I first heard about the project," Anderson announced in a taped interview. "I've sent him numerous letters on the subject and had several important discussions with him through members of Lucasfilm security." When asked whether he's had any recent discussion with Lucas personally, Anderson stated, "Well, the movie's under a tight schedule, and of course I'm always swamped, so usually we wind up playing phone tag." When asked why Lucasfilm has denied any involvement by Anderson in the project, he had this response: "For security purposes we decided early on to talk as little about the connection with Jedi Academy as possible. We wanted to avoid any industrial espionage or marketing scams that might attempt to exploit this project." George Lucas took some time out of his very busy schedule to grant us an interview. "There was a delay in production of one of the models so I'm giving everyone some time off," he remarked off handedly. "Besides it'll give John Warren, our Key Grip, some time to spend with his new baby girl Shirley. And you know that Sue Miller in accounting and Jerry Frecks, our Gaffer, have been making eyes at one another; I'll bet there's some love in the air there. And then there's Lou Schmidt who works camera two who can spend some time with his sick grandmother. Oh darn, that reminds me. Ellen, please send some Lilacs to Mrs. Greta Schmidt, St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson Arizona, Room 112. Not roses, she's allergic to them. Oh, and how did your son's confirmation go? That's great, my best to him and little Susie and Todd. Yeah, make sure Todd rests up for the big game next week, we don't want him getting to tired out like he did last time against Carver Middle School." When asked about the role of Kevin Anderson in the film, Lucas replied "Kevin who?" Attack of the Clones will hit theaters in May of 2002.
