Subject: [FANFIC] Relativity Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 17:16:33 -0500 From: "Chuck" Newsgroups: alt.startrek.vs.starwars Just a one shot to take a break from writing epics. Relativity A steady dripping sound from the storm outside penetrated the silence of the room, interrupted only by the sound of a creaking floorboard as the guards stepped about, pulling the black hood over the condemned man's face, strapping the skullcap to his head to complete the grisly job. With a final securing tug the guard stepped back before the electric chair. "Electicity shall now be passed through your body until you are dead," the guard said grimly, "In accordance with state law. And may God have mercy on your soul." And with quiet footsteps he walked away. "Computer, end program," said Lt. Barclay. The scene quickly shifted to a crisscrossing grid of yellow lines, the only guard remaining turning and walking towards the exit. With the distant sound of pneumonics the doors and opened and closed for him as he walked to engineering, removing his cap as he entered the doors. "You're late," Lt. Comm. Laforge said. "I know," Barclay said apologetically, "I was held up; it won't happen again." "See that it doesn't," Laforge said, not really paying attention. "Have you completed the simulation of the supernova?" "Yes. I'm not entirely certain the new shield modifications are up to the task sir. I think if we increase the frequency to a higher band we'd stand a better chance." Laforge nodded. "That might do the trick. Run another simulation, see if it works out. The captain is adamant about this mission being a success." Suddenly there was a jarble of black and white shapes. "That's where it ends?" Lt. Commander Susan Ivanova asked. "I'm afraid so. We're not sure if it was the supernova that destroyed them, or something else entirely." The junior officer seemed nervous. "Do you think this could pose a threat to the station?" "The station will survive," she said with as much confidence as she could muster. "But I think we should inform Earth Force just to be on the safe side." The junior officer nodded and moved to carry out the order while she considered their next move. "Master?" the electronic voice wharbled. "Not now," came the slightly frustrated reply. "Master," the voice came again. "What is it?" the Doctor asked with impatience, slamming the comic book shut. "Master, the TARDIS has arrived." "Good good," he said, putting the comic book on the shelf for the moment as he stepped over K-9. Then he stopped. "We weren't going anywhere, were we?" "Negative." "Then I find it rather odd that we've arrived some place we'd no intention of going to," he remarked as he pulled his scarf around him. He twisted a knob and the screen revealed a lush jungle and a path. "Most odd," he remarked, as he moved towards the now open doors. "Well, come along K-9." "Yes, Doctor," the Emperor said. "Come along. We shall see how you fair in the wilds of N'barr." He chuckled very slightly as his mind probed the images of the Doctor's movements. Off to the side his red clad warriors, the most elite of his guards, stood ready to defend the meditating form of their master against any possible threat. The room was completely silent as he continued, reaching out with the Force to find the answers he sought. "What're you up to numbnuts?" Hudson asked as he kicked his bunk. "I'm reading," Hicks said, putting down the book. "You fucking mind?" "Shit man, we're going to do a drop on Ripley's bad boys and you're wasting your fucking time reading a book?" "Eat shit Hudson," Hicks said, trying to settle back in place to continue where he left off. "Wow," Chuck thought, "That was kind of bizarre. Still, it could be kind of an interesting idea, if it could be made to work. Perhaps if-" but the thought was cut off by a choked scream as his body seized, every muscle tightening to the breaking point and beyond as his body was wracked with the intensity. Finally it stopped and he slumped forward, and a stethoscope was placed on his chest. The doctor turned and nodded to the guard. "Sentence has been carried out," the guard said, and the witnesses filed out. He and the others stepped forward and undid the straps, removing the body from the chair. As the others carried him out the guard stopped and looked around carefully. Funny, he thought, I could almost swear that someone is watching me right now. And the room echoed with his exiting footsteps.... [the end?] All material belongs to their respective owners. I have no idea where to even start finding the names of all these people.
