Subject: (Fanfic) Scylla and Charybdis Date: Fri, 21 Jun 2002 02:47:23 -0700 From: "Colin'The Yosemite Bear'Witz" Newsgroups: alt.startrek.vs.starwars K'veld picked up the human artifact, blurred by time, dog eared from re-reading, it reminded him that his mother's people were once great warriors too, before they had forgotten their traditions and banned the likes of Homer. He loved this part, truly Klingon in it's mastery, the brave warrior locks the pretenders into a room with him, throwing spears so hard that they would pierce the walls and doors. Truly a soul of a Klingon. He placed the book back in it's place among the others, in the hard one Heirchy of a Klingon warship, any sign of weakness could be fatal, and few of his fellow warriors would believe that anything honorable and warlike could come from the planet Sol. He had found a collection of Books and disks from that planet long banned by the authorities smuggled in by Orions at a telling price, but their information into the basis of a great strategy against those creatures, that had polluted his blood, through their corruption of his father, It was a good thing that she had died bringing him forth he used to say, when his father was not around, better not to have to live with the shame of having a weak human around while the warriors tended their battle circles. He may have thought so as an angry child, but not anymore, still it was his place to put down a woman who he had never known, all part of the job of being the Captain of a B'rel class scout vessel. Officially hunting for Pirates in the so called "Badlands" in service of the patron house's merchant interests. More often it was smuggling Romulon Ale over to that toad of a Ferengi on the Torach'Nor. Hell the scum had even tried to steal a cloaking device from another Klingon Vessel. Still K'veld had been doing good, but not good enough by the standards of his fellow warriors, sure they all could have done better, they were after all "Pure Klingons" what a load of --- "An Orion trader and a Romulon battleship have uncloaked near by." announced the crewman manning the weapons consol. Proof indeed that someone in the Romulon Empire was hedging their bets by giving some support to these Maquis Pirates, besides they had to be getting their Isseks from somewhere, in order to buy Orion ships, weapons and supplies, sympathetic federation officers could only get a terrorist group so far. The ship it's self and the sensor logs would be enough, for anyone but his crew, they would want glory and battle. "While were still cloaked get close to that Orion, and release a shuttle, set on timed detonate, I want their sensors blinded when we uncloak, they will Expend their first volley's on each other. Sure the Nuclear detonation of the shuttle craft would disrupt their cloaking device but the crew would never let him get away without attacking the Romulon Ship, and it gave them the best chance of survival. (Thinking back to the Human computer game disk, in his hidden place, "Become Formless" this Sun Tzu mast have foreseen the advent of cloaked warships for certain). Firing off phasors and photon bursts he saw that his first volley had disabled the Orion vessel, but that just left the monstrous Romulon chasing after them. He Shouted They pushed their warp engines with the Romulon in hot pursuit pounding them with their own torpedoes, however the plasma cores quickly burned out at warp speeds, and the damage was minimal. The singularity brought their warp drive into a sudden halt, as safety overrides kicked in, Taking control of the helm he pushed his tiny ship's maneuverability to it's limits, shutting weapons offline, for more shielding and sublight speed. shouted his first officer, as he suddenly jinxed around an asteroid, the shockwave as the rock absorbed the Romulon's fury knocking his inquisition off his feet. K'veld grinned, teeth bared, now let the Romulon into my little trap. His angered first officer growled accusingly. He grinned as he prepared to deal with the traitor. The crew knew he was right as a burst of acceleration sent them forward past the yawning chasm. The large warship was not so lucky, her drives were loosing ground and her shields were failing from the constant assault of the Rocks. Preparing genetic stabilizers to stop cancerous growths, he stood waiting to board the trapped foe, the battle and Plunder would be good, and he had to give his human side some credit, where else but from Homer would he have gotten the idea of threading Scylla and Charybdis.
