From: "Robin Adkins" Date: Sun, 1 Aug 1999 16:58:57 +1000 I don't quite know if anyone will like this, but it is only the begginning, and so it doesn't have any star wars characters yet, so yeah, chritisize if you want, but please don't make it too nasty, it is after all my first go at this sort of thing....... With the advent of the threat from the Borg, the outlook for the federation was grim. The Federation considering it's options decide that there weren't that many, and so the project called Confederation was put into action, basically set up a self reliant colony, with defences, and comprising of the dominant species of the federation. The idea was to have a place were the people of the federation could go to if the Borg were unstoppable, and to research new weapons, ships and types of combat, a military version of the federation if you will. This involved finding at least three M class planets within close proximity of each other where a group of independent planets could be created, they were found and they were 3 thousand light years away from the federation borders in uncharted and unclaimed space. The next was to find 68 colony ships, with an escort of 3 Ambassador, 12 excelsiors, and 22 Constellation class starships. All of the ships had been removed from the federation fleet lists, and had complete overhauls, with the latest starfleet technology, organic warp drives, quantum torpedoes, type 12 phasers, and the adaptive shield technology, ablative armour etc. These ships would then set off to populate the planets. There were about 1.2 million people on these ships. They took with them three massive computer data banks, which had all the information about all the federation inside them. They took with them industrial replicators, pre-fabricated buildings, all the things that would be needed to build three large colonies, and some of the greatest minds from the Federation, both Vulcan, and Human. The journey finally over the colonists created a colony in the middle system of the three containing the M class worlds. The planet was called Terra, and it was the beginnings of the Terran Confederation. They started using the replicators to build shuttles, and more buildings and a medium sized space station. This space station became known as Terra one, it was where all the starships were based and refitted. The only contact the colonists had with earth was through the news nets, and a very private untraceable subspace connection to starfleet command. They used this to ask for more people, and so they came. The people headed to colonies, or to create new ones were asked if they would like to be part of the project, most said yes, they would want to be part of it, and so another convoy headed off, with larger starships, and even brand new Intrepid class ships sent as escort(they never even entered the fleet database), the convoy sent another 70 colony ships, and 3 galaxy, 6 intrepid, and 40 excelsior class ships, all supposedly lost in the dominion war. When they got to the new planets the confederation was able begin in earnest, they were able to build a Starbase on the lines of Starbase 74, i.e 8km's tall, and 3 km's wide at it's top, it was to house all the starships, and to be used to build all the starships they would need, it was called Perry Naval Base. The other two colonies were created and a government was formed on Terra with 30 representatives from each planet, along the same lines as the federation senate. Terra 1 was move to one of the other colonies and renamed Alpha 1, and another Regulus 1 was built and put in orbit of the other colony. The colony ships were then transformed into transports, mining ships, and space stations, and the rest were taken apart and changed into new ships. The starships took on the designation TCS(Terran Capital Ship). The first ships that the starbase built were not the military vessels anticipated, the government had decided that the ships they had were more that adequate for defence, and so instead they built transports, fighters, and mining ships. But at the same time they decided that designing new ships was also going to be one of their priorities, along with new weapons, and technologies as a whole. Seeing the usefulness of fighters as force multipliers, they created new designs, most using the pulse phaser cannons as their main weaponry, and then developed large carrier craft to take them into battle and to support them during such a battle, but none of the carriers were built. New phaser cannons were developed, the type 16 phaser array was useful, in that it could be used in a pulse fashion(putting up a truly effective flack barrage), or in the more traditional single beam fashion. All this information was quickly sent off to the federation's starfleet command. All the ships large enough in the Terran fleet were fitted with new type 16 phaser as a one for one replacement for their current arrays. Seeing that trans-warp was the only way to get to the federation within a reasonable time frame, it got much of the attention of the scientists, and a preliminary version that allowed travel at warp 12(TNG scale) was developed. This allowed them to get to the outer borders of the federation in a couple of weeks instead of a 9.5 month journey. This was fitted to all the ships that they had, and was a great success in finding other planets to colonise that were close by. A call was sent to starfleet command with all the new information and some more colony ships to populate the new worlds that they had discovered. Starfleet fearing discovery of the operation sent only another 20 colony ships and only 1 nebula, and 17 constellation class, again, the nebula was supposedly lost in the war with the dominion, and the constellation were in mothballs prior to the operation, they were given a proper refit but only half the crew was given for reasons only known to starfleet. They were sent away at the new speeds that were attainable by minor modifications to the warp core and engines. When arrived they gave the message from starfleet that they could only give information, and that no more ships were available at least until the Dominion war was over. And so the newly built Confederation grew by itself, without even the news nets to look at, they were totally cut off from the federation, except for the transmissions that they sent and received from the starfleet headquarters about the progress of the war, and new technologies that the Terrans had discovered. Six years since the last colony ships had arrived it was decided to build two more star bases on the line of Perry Naval Base Fifteen years after the Confederation was established they built a subspace telescope array similar to the Argus array, and with this they peered further into the galaxy than any human had ever achieved, this was how all the trouble began.
