From: Shadowarbiter@aol.com (Matt Huang) Newsgroups: alt.startrek.vs.starwars Subject: [fanfic] Star Empires Prolouge Date: 20 Mar 2003 16:22:18 -0800 a crossover fanfic set in an alt-universe, still working on it when i can, so explect an installment every now and then, basic trek vs wars, ownership of trek and wars belongs to paramount and lucasfilm, respectively, you all know the drill Star Empires: Prologue Dominion warships slowly advanced towards the Obsidian Order fleet, firing occasionally to destroy disruptor and torpedo platforms drifting dead in space. Not so far away, another Dominion battle group was assaulting a Cardassian starbase and its defenders. A trio of Dominion fighters flew towards the Galor closest to the station, and began dissecting it with their polaraon beams, cutting away disruptors, deflectors, and bulkheads. Nearby, a Keldon fought on, firing torpedoes with reckless abandon at the fighters, and thundered towards a large Dominion battlecruiser, hellbent on ramming through shields before unleashing a withering disruptor assault. Gul Denut watched it all on the bridge of his own Keldon, thinking of the cost that the Keldon had paid for the chance to disable the Dominion battlecruiser, now that both ships shields were down. However, he wouldn't let the Dominion commander collect on that price as soon as the founders would no doubt like. "Ahead full impulse, put us between that Keldon and the rest of the attacking fleet." He looked around his bridge, his officers working below him to keep the ship's weapons in use. "Gul, a Domnion battlecruiser is on a collision course with us. What should I do?" The chaos of battle surrounded him, and Denut was doing his best to keep that chaos from spreading too far. "All disruptors, fire at the battlecruiser's warp core." Vulcan was a forge, a desolate desert planet. However, that did not stop Darek from appreciating the harsh beauty of his ancestral homeworld. He watched as a Vulcan monk walked towards him, indifferent to the presence of a "sundered one." Both knew why Darek, a Romulan, was on the desert world, he had an ancient gift that most Romulans had forgotten, and most Vulcans rejected. Darek had the killing gift, the power to stop life, the actual chemical process that kept the universe busy, with a thought. However, his abilities extended far beyond that, rivaling that of even the Mind Lords of old. There were rumors that went so far as to say that the Q were fascinated by him, introducing and removing obstacles to his command as a game, enjoying what he would do next. He would not disappoint them. "All torpedoes, fire!" A blood red volley of klingon photon torpedoes streaked away from the K'Vort cruiser Gre-Thor, and slammed into the shields of the Defiant class Dragunov. Behind them, a K'Tinga decloaked, and added a volley of disruptors to the fray. A nearby Intrepid responded in kind, firing streams of golden phaser fire from every array, then punching through the weaker K'Tinga's shields with a photorp barrage. Incandescent streams of plasma billowed from ruptured EPS conduits in the K'Tinga's port nacelle and splashed onto the K'Vort's shields, weakening them and breaking sensor locks. The Defiant saw this moment of weakness, and made the Gre-Thor pay, warping under the cruiser and firing all it's foreword facing weapons into it's belly, pummeling the impulse reactors and warp core as isoton scale explosions ripped through SIF fields and armored bulkheads. As the captain of the doomed Gre-Thor watched, the Intrepid and Defiant both cloaked, the Federation Eagle emblem on each ship the last to fade from view. Then, one of the dedicated EPS conduit powering the bridge breached, first erupting in a shower of sparks, then vaporizing the surviving bridge crew. Under the serene blue sky of Earth, Bobby Mason and the rest of his 5th grade class was listening to Miss Wolfe's lecture on federation history, the Quadrant Wars. "The Praxis incident was the turning point in Federation-Klingon relations. Praxis was a key Klingon energy production facility, vital to the livelihood of Qo'nos and the economic base of the Empire. In 2293, it was nearly destroyed when a reactor went critical, but was saved when the reactor went inert, luck and shoddy construction had meant that reactant injectors fused shut before a runaway reaction could destroy the moon. However, this meant that Qo'nos was left without it's main power source. While Chancellor Gorkon was occupied with securing a truce to gain time for repairs to the moon, a coup led by General Chang was successful in taking over and declaring war on both the Federation and the Romulans for 'Sabotage of Praxis moon', plunging the Klingon Empire into civil war and dragging the entire quadrant into chaos. What happened next was a testament to the character of the Federation, and a grim warning of things to come." The RIS Hieraeetus watched from behind it's cloak as a black shape burst from warp, a stark contrast to the bright starfield of the galactic core. It was a small, roughly triangular vessel, with a daggerlike form, hull scorched black all over, gaping holes exposing eps conduits. On the bridge, Commander T'Hark studied the ruined hull. His conn officer began a few scans. "A Talarian warship, heavily damaged, no lifesigns. They were a burning wreck long before they engaged warp drive, but they still tried to run..." A large, white daggerform ship appeared from nowhere, the large turrets on it's hull turning to face the Talarian Warship. "Intriging, it seems that we have discovered the Talarian's attackers. By the looks of them, quite a formidable opponent." Brillant streaks of energy lashed out from the larger ship, spearing the Talarian ship until it was plasma. "I believe that was an ion cannon, commander. Preliminary analisis reveals that they are a warship, with neutronium alloys plated onto the hull. I have identified several weak spots in their armor, including several large exaust ports on their aft hull, relatively unarmored postions along their centerline, an oversized shuttlebay in their vental hull, and what appears to be their command and sensors module on that dorsal mast. If we attack, I recommend an assault to their aft from under cloak."
